1932

January 1, 1932 - Friday.  Warm with some nice sunshine., but colder tonight.  Roy and Glenn took a load of lumber to Truro this a.m. and Glenn and G.R. Deyarmond took one tonight.   Morris, Edwin and Mary took Glenn's car and went to a dance at Hugh Murphy's.  There was a card party at B.N. Foster's.  Also a pleasant time at Mr Abram Bentley's in honor of their 37th wedding  day, and Mr Bentley's birthday.  They were completely in the dark about knowing anything of it.  After the preliminaries were over, the couple, Mr and Mrs Bentley, were presented, by Rev A.T. MacDonald on behalf of the congregation, with a case of silver; also to Mr Bentley was given  a sum of money, a fountain pen and nice pencil.  Mr Bentley , in a few sincere words, thanked the friends for their kind action and thoughtfulnness to Mrs Bentley and himself.  Then a sett was formed and a free and easy dance was had by Mrs C.P. Macmillan, Mrs R. Millard, Mrs Grant Cox, Mrs Burnham Stewart (ladies); and Messrs Alex Fulton, Frank Reynolds, Abrham Bentley and Frank Smith.  This was a very entertaining dance.  Another sett was carried out in a more orderly way, but not with as much fun as the first.  Then came lunch, enjoyed by all; then the singing of some old sweet songs and some sacred music, ending with " God Be With You Till We Meet Again".  All dispersed with best wishes to Mr and Mrs Bentley for many happy returns of New Years Day, and with a feeling of satisfaction in the time spent with friends who would have happy thoughts of this pleasant gathering for years.

Resolution for 1932 - Not to ruffle others by anxiety to get the mail.  Be careful for nothing.  To try to speak and think kindly and lovingly of others. Others, yes, others.  To be persevering.  Press on to the goal.

January 2, 1932 - Saturday.  Warm and cloudy.  Bub's 73rd birthday.

January 3, 1932 - Sabbath.  Cloudy with chilly wind.  The sermon was from the text "Ye have not passed this way heretofore".  Sanctify ourselves - commands going on.  Y.P.S.C.E. Business meeting and behind in the finances.  Some day may people have these things so on their minds that they will be as eager to bring offerings as they are careless or indifferent about it now!  And, if I am not thinking right about these things, may right thoughts come into my mind.

January 4, 1932 - Monday.  Cold wind but some sunshine.  Mrs Margeson in.  Edith Fulton, Martha Cox, Alda and Edwin Blaikie in this evening.  I was at Roy's a while this p.m.

Cox's and spent the p.m. and evening.  The sermons on the radio were good.  Dr Patterson of Acadia addressed the Y.M.C.A. on Disarmament.  A fine discourse, taking in the dangers of going on with war, and, making instruments and fatal or deadly concoctions for the wholesale destruction of cities and people; also the true source of peace which is Jesus, whose peace is left with us.   Morris came for me.  Graham Fulton and Florence Ellis were here when we returned.  Tom Fulton is here yet.
