January 1, 1928 - January 9, 1928 - no entries.

January 10, 1928 - Mild.  No sledding.  Hauling logs from  the Wier lot with the truck.  Mrs Hamilton here.  Alice at Club.

January 11, 1928 - Rainy and soft.  Harris, Roy and Morris were out to see the mills back of Allen Deyarmond's.  Glenn trying to get money for church purposes.

January 12, 1928 - March 27, 1928 - no entries

March 28, 1928 - Morris in Col. Co. Hospital, operated on for rupture.  Roy and Dr Stewart went with him.  Glenn got horse-kicked this morning.

March 29, 1928 - June 6, 1928 - no entries

June 7, 1928 - Lower Stewiacke - Cloudy.  A few drops of rain.  Edith (Mrs Woodworth) morescoed the walls of the kitchen etc.  I slept on the sofa out of doors a while this p.m.  Came here May 17, 1928.  Roy brought me.

June 8, 1928 - June 12, 1928 - no entries

June 13, 1928 - Looks cloudy this a.m.  Feel quite well after a night's rest.  Mrs Woodworth, Aunt Edith, was up to Stewiacke Town yesterday.  She got a parcel from Holman's;  among other things - a half set of china dishes.  Mrs Robert V. Fulton and Mrs H. Page Tupper made us a call last evening.

June 14, 1928 - Cloudy.  Raining tonight.  Edith, having burned a pile of stuff last evening, made and planted a bed of cucumbers.  I was quite well.  Got a bottle of medicine from Dr Stewart today.

June 15, 1928 - Friday.  Rained last night.  Also some today.  Fred was home.  Edith up town this a.m.

June 16, 1928 - Saturday.  Fine.  Eva and I walked to the river and picked some goose-tongue greens.

June 17, 1928 - Sabbath.  A fine day.  I kept house for the family to go to church.  Mrs Joe Cox and Donelda over a little while in the p.m. 

June 18, 1928 - Monday.  A fine, but somewhat cloudy day.  Mr J.W. Meadows and Reginald Turner and Fred Woodworth putting in the crop here.  Also Charlie Meadows.

June 19, 1928 - Tuesday.  A fine day.  Harry and Nellie; Walter , Ralph, and Donnie and Walter Francis  made us a call in the p.m.  Edith and I were uptown in the a.m.  Had a letter from home.

June 20, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine most of the day, but cloudy and rainy at night.  Flora and Edith Goodwin were here spending most of the day. Mrs Woodworth got the last of her seeding finished.

June 21, 1928 - Thursday.  Rather cloudy.  Edith up to Stewiacke this a.m.  Then we were at Mrs Morton Ellis' to dinner and supper.  Wrote to Alix, Alberta.

June 22, 1928 - Friday.  Fine - not hot. Eva got her pass into Grade 7.  Fred up at Mr Meadows'.

June 23, 1928 - Saturday.  Pretty fine.  Eva was at a Pantry Sale in Stewiacke this p.m.  Mrs Woodworth and I drove over to Mrs Morton Ellis'.  Fred got a haircut tonight.

June 24, 1928  - Sabbath.  Fine.  Fred and Eva went to church and Sunday School. R.N. Woodworth and Miss Alice Eaton and Levi Borden and Miss Helen Eaton came from Canning and were here to dinner.  Mrs Brison and Marjorie and Joe Cox; Roy, Edna, Glenn and Shirley and Nina were all here in the p.m.

June 25, 1928 - July 1, 1928 - no entries

July 2, 1928 - A fine hot day.  We had nice showers and warm days last week.  Mrs Laura Graham, our cousin, came last Monday.  Edith (Mrs Woodworth) meeting her at the station at 4:45 , I guess.   The Farmer's Picnic is today.  Fred and Eva went with Mr Meadows.

July 3, 1928 - Fine.  Quite warm.  Mrs Graham and Mrs Woodworth went to Truro - the latter returning at night - 4 o'clock train.

July 4, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine, but cooler and a bit cloudy.  Mrs Morton Ellis and Eva and I drove up to Mrs Percy Goodwin's - took Mrs Ellis' mare, Maizie.

July 5, 1928 - Thursday.  Hot; fine.  Mrs Woodworth went up to the station  and met Mrs Laura Graham who has been to Truro.

July 6, 1928 - Friday.  Fine.

July 7, 1928 - Saturday.  Fine.  Laura and I walked over to Mrs Morton Ellis' after tea.  Eva Woodworth drove over for us. Laura Graham and Edith uptown in the morning.

July 8, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine.  All of us at church. Charles Blaikie and family came back with us and had dinner.  Glenn Blaikie came in the p.m.,  having dinner at Percy Goodwin's.   Charlie and family and Edith and Laura (Mrs Graham) drove up to Mrs Percy Goodwin's to tea,  except Gail Blaikie.   Glenn and Laura went to Upper Stewiacke in the p.m.

July 9, 1928 - Monday.  Edith washed.  A fine day.  Mr Meadows began haying.

July 10, 1928 - Tuesday.  Fine.  Edith and I up to Stewiacke.

July 11, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine but cloudy.  We had a quiet day.  I was over to Mrs C. Ellis' a little while. 

July 12, 1928 - Thursday.  Fine.  Hot.  The men shingling.  Flora and Edith and Mrs Weaver here to tea.

July 13, 1928 - Friday.  Fine and hot.  Ramsey Brothers shingling.  Eva uptown to get shingles etc. 

July 14, 1928 - no entry

July 15, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine and hot.  All of us at church.  Rev D.McKinnon of Great Village preached.  Subject was the Holy Spirit.  Harry , Walter and Ralph Blaikie were out from Truro for a short time.  Mrs Brison and Marjorie called; also Mrs Joseph Cox.

July 16, 1928 - Monday.  Fine.  Fred home farming.

July 17, 1928 - Tuesday.  Raining some - not much.  Fred finished the potatoes.

July 18, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine and hot.  Had a letter from Morris and Alice.

July 19, 1928 - Thursday.  Fine.  Eva, and Jean Tupper were up to Stewiacke.

July 20, 1928 - Friday.  Fine.  Eva, Edith and I were over to Mr Morton Ellis' to tea.

July 21, 1928 - Saturday.  Fine.  A good hay day.  We had a letter from Mrs Frank Abrahamson.  Eva and I picked some bluenerries.

July 22, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine.  All of us at church.  Rev D.C. Ross preached;  the text was "I will arise and go to my Father".  He told us of an auto.  When we started on a journey there are three things necessary, after the car is in complete order, to be attended to 'ere we go.  Water - to keep the parts cool - like the dependance on God. Oil - to keep the friction off - that all goes smoothly.  Gas - the heavenly power pouring into us day by day.  Edith and Eva were at evening service.  Percy Goodwin and Edith, and his uncle J. Weaver called.  Also Glenn, Morris, Harry and Walter and Ralph were all here a little while in the p.m. 

July 23, 1928 - July 27, 1928 - no entries

July 28, 1928 - Saturday.  Dark this a.m.  Raining in the p.m.  This was, or is, Morris' nineteenth birthday.  Had no letter from home this week.  Had a letter from Flossie and Edith.   Am better.

July 29, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine.  All at church.  Very quiet all p.m.

July 30, 1928 - no entry

July 31, 1928 - Tuesday.  Fine.  Karl Cox came to visit us.  Had him all night.  Letters came from Mrs Sill, Alice Blaikie, and Morris Blaikie.  Very glad to get them.

August 1, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine.  A lot of hay harvested.  Had letters from Mrs Margeson and Roy and Edna and Jean Blaikie.  Edith and I were at WMS in the p.m.  Eva and Karl over at Mr Ellis'.

August 2, 1928 - Thursday.  Fine.  Edith (my sister) and her daughter were up to Stewiacke Town in the a.m.  Karl Cox, son of Blaine Cox of Brockton , Mass., is here, and at Earle Ellis' for a week or so.  Eva went blueberrying with Mr Tupper's folk.

August 3, 1928 - Friday.  Dark.  No hay day.  Mrs Morton Ellis here to tea.

August 4, 1928 - Saturday.  Dark with rain toward night. Eva up to the Post Office.  Had a parcel and letter from Edith (Mrs Raymond Boomer).  Raymond is in hospital in Red Deer for appendicitis.

August 5, 1928 - Sabbath.  Sort of dark.  All at church except myself.  Mr and Mrs percy Goodwin and Edith came down before dinner.  Also Glenn, Tom, Shirley and Nina Blaikie came just at dinner.  All went away before supper.

August 6, 1928 - Monday.  Fine.  Fred mowed some at home.  My boys gave me  twenty dollars - a present for my birthday.  Nellie gave me two pretty handkerchiefs; Edith Boomer and children - a handkerchief, a waxed flower and a luncheon set.  Flossie - a handkerchief and stamps.  Eva Woodworth - a card of hairpins.  Had cards from Bessie and Marion Blaikie, Mrs Edson Cox, little Margaret Hastings Johnson, and Mrs P.W. Graham.

August 7, 1928 - Tuesday.  Fine.  Got in two loads of hay.

August 8, 1928 - Wednesday.  Jessie Smith and Clarence Chaplin were married today.  Also Stella Laidlaw and Clarence Taylor.

August 9, 1928 - August 14, 1928 - no entries.

August 15, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine.  We have had three good hay days.  They got the last of Mrs Woodworth's hay in today.  She and Fred are away tonight.

August 16, 1928 - August 20, 1928 - no entries

August 21, 1928 - Tuesday.  Rather dark.  Mr Meadows  went to work on the Flat yesterday.  Fred was away all night.  I made my nightie yesterday.  Roy and Edna,  Charlie and Bessie were down to tea on Sabbath. Very unexpected but glad to see them.  Carl Cox is spending the day here.  He expects to go to Halifax tomorrow.

August 22, 1928 - Wednesday.  Rather hot.  Was over to Mrs Morton Ellis' to dinner and tea.  Mrs Ellis brought me home.  Fred is not staying on the Flat at night now.

August 23, 1928 - Thursday.  A small shower this a.m. but not a rainy day.  We spent the day at Mrs Holesworth's.  She was very kind and nice.  Had a letter from Flossie.  Eva stayed up at Mrs Brison's.

August 24, 1928 - Friday.  Rather cloudy.  They made and stacked hay on the Flat.  Nobody stayed there tonight.  Page Tupper stayed three nights alone on the island.  Edith and I drove up to Percy Goodwin's this a.m.   Were there to dinner and tea.  Had a letter from Edith Boomer.

August 25, 1928 - no entry.

August 26, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine.  Glenn, Alice, Shirley, Nina and Laurie were here to tea.

August 27, 1928 - no entry

August 28, 1928 - Tuesday.  Fine and hot.  We were at Mrs M. Ellis'.

August 29, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine and hot.  A dry, dry time.  A quiet day.

August 30, 1928 - August 31, 1928 - no entries

September 1, 1928 - All this week was hot and dry.  Water scarce.  This is Saturday night.  Eva has driven up to Stewiacke Town.  She was at Mrs Morton Ellis' all day.  She got a nice lot of blackberries.  Mrs Ellis was over this evening.

September 2, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine.  Not so hot.  I was not at church.  Harry and Ralph and Donald came and took the family (Edith, Fred, Eva and I) out to Wittenberg in the p.m.  We were there to tea.   Glenn and Dr Stewart were at Percy Goodwin's and we called there on our way home.  Dr. Stewart talked to me giving me encouraging words about my illness;  and I am thankful to think I am some better than in the spring.  We reached home at dusk, Harry returned or started for his home in Truro at once.

September 3, 1928 - no entry

September 4, 1928 - Tuesday.  Fine.  We visited with Miss Carrie Dickie - the guest of Mrs Samuel Crowe.

September 5, 1928 - Wednesday.  Fine.  Nice dry weather.  Edith made chow chow etc today.  Eva was up to Mrs E. Brison's all night.

September 6, 1928 - Fine.  Cooler.  Flora is down on a little visit.  Tom and Morris sent me some yarn to make socks.  Got it in the mail today.  Edith made jelly.  It looks nicely.

September 7. 1928 - Friday.  Fine again.  Wrote or sent letters to Flossie Boomer and the home folks.  Eva and Fred were at a Sunday School picnic this p.m.  A Bible Student Book Agent called.

September 8, 1928 - Saturday.  A fine day.  Edith baked bread and other things this morning and went up town and got the rim of one of the wheels of the wagon fixed.  No letters from home today.

September 9, 1928 - Sabbath.  Fine.  Communion Sabbath.  Fred Woodworth's 16th birthday.  We were all at church.  A very nice service.  The discourse was from Luke, chapter 24, verse 36.  One thought was the place Jesus occupies in our lives.

September 10, 1928 - Monday.  A fine day.  Cooler in the morning now. Edith washed her weekly wash.  We had a quiet day.  Feel better tonight.

September 11, 1928 - Tuesday.  Quite a rainy day.  Vert quiet.  Edith made beef pickles, apple sauce etc. 

September 12, 1928 - Wednesday.  Pretty fine - but chilly - windy and cloudy.  Edith went to the Odd Fellows picnic this p.m.  I was at Mrs Christie Ellis' to tea.  A letter from Edith Boomer.

September 13, 1928 - Thursday.  Quite a wet day.  Very quiet.

September 14, 1928 - Friday.  Dark.  Some rain this forenoon.  Cooler tonight.  Edith and I called and spent an hour or so with Mrs Page Tupper this afternoon.  Had quite a chat   with Mrs Smith - 14 Elm Street, Truro, NS.

September 15, 1928 - Saturday.  Cool this morning.  Warm in the p.m.  Fred home and the wood was finished being put in the wood house.  The three little Tuppers were here this p.m.  Fred up town tonight.

September 16, 1928 - Sabbath.  Cloudy.  Rather dark.   I was not at church - the others were.  Roy, Glenn, Edwin and Alda here to tea.  Very glad to see them. 

September 17, 1928 - Monday.  Cloudy - fine some of the time.  Earle Ellis helped Fred mow the oats today.  The oats were rusty.  Mrs Morton Ellis called -   also Joe Cox.  Had a letter from Flossie.

September 18, 1928 - September 19, 1928 - no entries

September 20, 1928 - Cloudy with some sunshine.  Mr Christie Ellis died September 19, at about 11:15 p.m.  Edith was there. Rev Mr L.B. Campbell called.  He had been at Mrs Ellis'.

September 21, 1928 - Friday.  Dark with some rain - not much.  Fred was home today.  The funeral of the late G. Christie Ellis was held at his home this p.m. at 1:30.  All of us were there except Eva, who was at school.  Fred and his mother drove to Shubenacadie afterwards  and made some purchases at Thompson & Lawlor's.

September 22, 1928 - Saturday.  Cloudy with some sunshine.  A rainbow at night, tho' no rain.  Fred up at Mr Meadows'.  Eva over at Mrs Morton Ellis' most of the day.

September 23, 1928 - Sabbath.  Quite fine.  All at church, morning and evening.  Old Time Music  at both services.

September 24, 1928 -  Monday.  Cloudy  and a little rain.  Got the oats in and threshed by Walter Webster.  Letter from Alice.

September 25, 1928 - Tuesday.  Finer.  Edith pickling etc.  I picked some apples,  and made a bib for Laurie Blackie - it being his birthday.

September 26, 1928 - Wednesday.  Pretty fine this a.m., but raining in the p.m.  Walter Webster and Ed Tomlinson here to tea and for all night.  Fred at Mr Meadows' today. 

September 27, 1928 - Thursday.  Cloudy with some rain.  A rainbow in the p.m.  Fred home this p.m.  Pickled some cranberies.

September 28, 1928 - Friday.  Dark and cloudy with thunder and lightning and some sunshine.  We called at Earle Ellis' and I was at Page Tupper's a short time this p.m.  Fred was at Mr Meadow's.  I baked bread.

September 29, 1928 - Saturday.  A fine day.  Frost at night now.  Fred at Mr Meadows' this a.m.  Digging potatoes at home with Mr Meadows' digger this p.m. Eva up town this p.m. to practice for choir.

September 30, 1928 - Sabbath.  A nice fine day.  Fred stayed home and got dinner;  the others of us were at church.  Between tow and three o'clock, Glenn and Tom and Morris came down.  We had a nice visit from them.  Morris took Eva, Fred, Tom and I for a short drive - over as far as Mrs Morton Ellis'.  After tea, they went home.

October 1, 1928 - Monday.  Another fine day.  They finished digging potatoes here.  Had a good crop.  We were getting exhibits ready for the exhibition this p.m.  Stanfield and Flemming victorious candidates in Colchester County.  Conservatives won election 23 - 20.

October 2, 1928 - Tuesday.  Quite a nice day.  Edith and Eva went up to the Exhibition building and took the exhibits from here.  Then in the p.m., we picked beans.

October 3, 1928 - Wednesday.  Quite fine.  Edith up to the Exhibition all day.  Eva and she went up in the a.m.  Eva and Fred and I had dinner at home, and then Fred went up to Stewiacke.  He came home after tea, did the chores, and went back to Stewiacke.   Edith Goodwin came down with my sister Edith, to stay all night.  Eva and I were over with Mrs Christie Ellis this p.m.  Had letters from Edith and Florence Boomer.

October 4, 1928 - Thursday.  Cold and windy but quite fine.  Exhibition closed.  Eva W. and Edith G. were up at the Ex; and after Eva came home, she  took old Jessie and went up again, and got the exhibits sent from here.

October 5, 1928 - Friday.  Another fine day.  Windy though.  My sister was making mincemeat, pickles etc.

October 6, 1928 - Saturday.  Rainy in the a.m.  Fine in the p.m.  Fred home today.  Fixing potato bins etc.  Edith made the last of the chow.  Fred uptown tonight.

October 7, 1928 - Sabbath.  Pretty fine; lightning and some rain at night.  Very heavy thunder storm near Port Williams, Kings County.  Mr Kenneth Cox, Mrs Brison, Mrs E.M. Woodworth, and Mr and Mrs Joseph Cox motored to Canning today.  Got home before 12 p.m.

October 8, 1928 - no entry

October 9, 1928 - Tuesday.  Dark with cool winds and slight showers.  Was at Mrs Morton Ellis' to dinner and Mrs Page Tupper's to tea.  Eva came over to accompany me home.  Fred up at Perce's; not home tonight.  Had a letter from Morris.

October 10, 1928 - Wednesday.  Cloudy and windy.  Cold wind.  Fred came back from Perce Goodwin's this p.m.  Brought Perce's team down to put out manure.  Got Mr Meadow's manure spreader.  Edith and Mrs Joe Cox up to WMS.

October 11, 1928 - Thursday.  A cold windy day.  Edith and I picked some apples in the p.m.  Mr H.D. Tupper and Fred  were hauling and spreading manure all day.    An old man came in the p.m. and is staying all night.  I had a letter from Mrs Edson Cox, Upper Stewiacke.   Mr Joe Young died .

October 12, 1928 - Friday.  Pretty nice day.  Fred up to Mr Meadow's in the p.m.  Helped pick potatoes  etc.

October 13, 1928 - Saturday.  Raining this a.m.  Fred and Eva put the potatoes down cellar.  In the p.m., Eva went over to Mr Morton Ellis' and helped  pick apples.  Fred took the team back to Percy Goodwin's and brought old Jessie home.  Rather cold tonight.

October 14, 1928 - Sabbath.  Rather cold and windy but fine.  All at church except myself.  Edith saw Dr. Havey about her side;  she had fallen on a stick of wood and hurt it.  Hope it will not be serious.  She thinks it won't.  Glenn and Morris came in the p.m. - stayed a while - got tea and went to Percy Goodwin's.  Sandy Fleck's buildings and stock burned lately.

October 15, 1928 - Monday.  Not very cold.  Edith washed.  Fred at Mr Meadows'.  Eva at Mr Brison's tonight.

October 16, 1928 - Tuesday.  Quite warm, but dark with slight showers tonight.  Aunt Edith was uptown this a.m.   - then she and I went over to M. C. Ellis', and had dinner.  Then we all went out and picked apples.  We came home about three p.m.  Heard of the death of Mr A. Miller, Shubenacadie;  hurt with a car, and died about two hours afterward.  Fred was at Mr Meadow's today.

October 17, 1928 - Wednesday.  Dark but only misty.  Flora and Percy Goodwin's tenth wedding day.  Mr Cooke and Percy went to Shubenacadie, and Flora came down here.  We hear that Mr A. Miller is in hospital in Halifax - not dead yet, as we had heard.

October 18, 1928 - Thursday.  A dark rainy day.  Edna's birthday.  Edith put in her quilt.  Had a letter from Morris.

October 19, 1928 - Friday.  A lovely autumn day.  We quilted some.  Edith and Eva and Ellen and Margaret Tupper picked some apples; they were here to tea.  Fred at Mr Meadow's.

October 20, 1928 - Saturday.  A rainy day.  Eva went up to Stewiacke this a.m.  Flora and Edith came down and Flora helped take the quilt out.  It is so rainy that they are staying all night.

October 21, 1928 - Sabbath.  A nice day, but the wind is cold.  Eva, Fred and I went to church and Sunday School.  Was in the Bible Class - Mr Howe, teacher.  A quiet afternoon was spent in reading and rest.

October 22, 1928 - Monday.  A lovely fine day.  Edith and I washed clothes.  Also ironed.

October 23, 1928 - Tuesday.  Warm, but dark.  Edith went up to Stewiacke this a.m.  The scholars went too - with her.  Had a letter from Edna and one from Glenn and one from Morris.
