January 1, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Alfred and Arthur cleaned the school house.  I made a  windbreaker for Scott.  Elmer lost one of his  team of horses - he went into the lake.

January 2, 1936 - Thursday - Cold this a.m.  14 below zero.  I was out to see the Doctor.  He said my Blood pressure was up to 70.

January 3, 1936 - Friday - milder.  Snow in forenoon, turned to rain this p.m.  Made two aprons.  Mart got a new horse today - met him in Greenfield.

January 4, 1936 - Saturday - snow almost all gone.  Homer came home in forenoon.  Ester and Priscilla down to Mart's in afternoon.  Mary Ellen died last night. (Mrs Ed Noyes)

January 5, 1936 - Sunday - rained then snowed.  Alfred,  Homer  and  David went down to church.  Mr. Raynor up, but no church.

January 6, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Washed and got the clothes dried.

January 7, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  David took Jip and went out to the woods with Mart.  Put a quilt in today.

January 8, 1936 - Wednesday - cold wind.  Killed the beef.  Willie and Emma over to dinner.  Churned.  Mart moved to the camp at the lake.

January 9, 1936 - Thursday - Fine  and warm.   Alfred took the hide and a quarter of beef down for D.F. Creelman.  Took the quilt out.

January 10, 1936 - Friday - Rained by afternoon,  and a high wind in evening.  Alfred getting wood.  Baked bread and made pickle for the beef.

January 11, 1936 - Saturday - Fine.  Homer came home in forenoon.  The water is out at the oak stump.   Men working in afternoon to clear a channel.

January 12, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.  David came home in forenoon.   No church.  Read and slept most of the day.

January 13, 1936 - Monday - Cloudy.  Did not wash - only the woolen underwear.  Lloyd Dickie is a little better.  Very sick yesterday with Scarlet Fever.

January 14, 1936 - Tuesday - A squally day.  Ester and Priscilla down to Mart's today.  Gordon got his ankle cut this p.m.  Doctor put two stitches in it.

January 15, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Washed today and made mincemeat in afternoon.  Alfred worked at Mart's on the brow.

January 16, 1936 - Thursday - a big storm - rain and wind.  Homer came home and they took the car with the mail.  He went back in the evening.

January 17, 1936 - Friday - Fine.   High wind blowing.  Baked bread.  David brought Jip home this p.m.

January 18, 1936 - Saturday.  The road icy and the water out at the oak stump.

January 19, 1936 - Sunday - Some snow in the night.  Was to church.  Mr Raynor's text was "Our Father which art in Heaven".

January 20, 1936 - Monday.  Quite a lot of snow fell last night.  Alfred was down at the oak stump trying to get the ice cleared. I went to Mart's.

January 21, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  King George of England died last night.   Washed today.   Cold and windy.

January 22, 1936 - Wednesday - Cold morning.  10 below zero.  Read a book and knit.  Alfred cutting wood.  Gordon went back to work this morning.

January 23, 1936 - Thursday - Dirty day - a lot of soft snow.   Baked four mince pies.

January 24, 1936 - Friday - cold windy day.   Finished a pair of socks and a pair of pillow cases.

January 25, 1936 - Saturday - Fine but cold and windy.  Baked bread and did some other cooking.  Gordon went to the village with Herman with the car.

January 26, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.  No church.  David went back to the woods in the afternoon - Homer, in the evening.

January 27, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Washed.  The clothes dried fine.  Ester, Priscilla and Lelia down to Father's this afternoon.

January 28, 1936 - Tuesday - A big snowstorm.  Snowed and blowed all day.  Alfred went to Cross Roads.  Didn't get any mail.  Jack Taylor did not come.

January 29, 1936 - Wednesday - blowing some.  Alfred breaking roads in afternoon.  Myra Blaikie very sick today - some better tonight.

January 30, 1936 - Thursday.  Snowing and blowing - filling the track up.  Six o'clock when Alfred got home with the mail.

January 31, 1936 - Friday - Finer.  This is my birthday.  Got quite a few calls on the telephone.  Ester and Priscilla made me a cake.

February 1, 1936 - Saturday.  Baked bread.  The boys are home to-night.  Mr and Mrs Mac Graham have a son.  Both doing well. - born Jan 31.

February 2, 1936 - Sunday - Stormy and cold - a rough day.  No church.  The roads are so bad.  Homer wore snowshoes back to work.

February 3, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Pretty cold.  Washed.  Alfred down over the road as far as Willie's in afternoon.  Not many drifts.

February 4, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine and 10 below zero.  Sent nine and three-quarter dozen of eggs       to D.F. Creelman.  Eggs are twenty-five cents [a dozen].  Got some groceries.

February 5, 1936 - Wednesday - cold.  Alfred mended Queen's rug.  I did some mending and knitting.

February 6, 1936 - Thursday - Cold.   Roads are heavy.  Bob Nichols came up with Alfred today.  Awful cold wind today.

February 7, 1936 - Friday - cold.  18 below zero.  Alfred down helping on the brow at Mart's.

February 8, 1936 - Saturday - Fine.  A lot of white frost this morning.  Gladys and Ina here to dinner.  The boys home tonight.

February 9, 1936 - Sunday - nice and fine.  Had a letter from Ina.  Mr and Mrs Gayton have a son (January 31).

February 10, 1936 - Monday - Stormy in morning.  A lovely fine afternoon.   Alfred down working at the brow at Mart's.

February 11, 1936 - Tuesday - Squally and snowy.  Washed  this morning but did not put them out.

February 12, 1936 - Wednesday - Cold day.  Alfred out to see Geordie's folk in the woods in afternoon.  Got the clothes dried today.

February 13, 1936 - Thursday - cold.  Ester ironed this morning.  Her and Priscilla over to Willie's with mail.

February 14, 1936 - Friday - cold and windy.  Alfred out to Mart's woods today.  I was reading a book and knitting.

February 15, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Pretty cold.   Alfred over to D.F. Creelman's.  Had ten dozen eggs over - 22 cents a dozen.  Done cleaning and cooking.

February 16, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.  I wasn't to church.  The rest were down.  Had lantern slides in the schoolhouse.

February 17, 1936 - Monday - Fine day.  Washed.  Ester and Priscilla down to Mart's a few minutes in afternoon.

February 18, 1936 - Tuesday - Rained today.  A boy born to Mr and Mrs Ervin Graham this a.m.  I was down to see the Doctor this morning.

February 19, 1936 - Wednesday - Windy day, after the thunder last night.  Baked bread.  Alfred down to the schoolhouse with a load of wood.

February 20, 1936 - Thursday - Not so cold.  A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Bob MacKay last night.  Ester is doing some sewing.

February 21, 1936 - Friday - snowing.  Quite a stormy day.  Ester has some cold.   Did not do much - read and knit some.  Ester finished her suit.

February 22, 1936 - Saturday - another snow storm this afternoon.  Baked pies and biscuits.  The boys all came home in evening.

February 23, 1936 - Sunday - finer today.  Sid Kennedy here to dinner.  David and Homer went back in the asfternoon.

February 24, 1936 - Monday - fine.  Washed.  Ester has quite a bad cold.  Alfred cut wood in afternoon.

February 25, 1936 - Tuesday - fine.  Alfred over to Lloyd Johnson's today with telephone money - also to D.F. Creelman's.  Eggs 22 cents a dozen.

February 26, 1936 - Wednesday - Soft day.  Alfred cutting wood.  Had the Annual Congregational meeting in evening.

February 27, 1936 - Thursday - fine.  Alfred over to Geordie's with sled in morning.  Jack Taylor driving mail with car this week.

February 28, 1936 - Friday - Soft day.  Rained last night.  Alfred and I down to see Min.  Alfred out to David's woods in afternoon.

February 29, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Ester, Gordon and Priscilla spent the week-end in Upper Stewiacke.  A boy born to Mr and Mrs Earle Kennedy.

March 1, 1936 - Sunday - Fine but cold.  David was home to dinner.  Alfred went to church.

March 2, 1936 - Monday - Fine but cold.  15 below zero at 7 o'clock.  Washed and got the clothes dried.   Priscilla's birthday - Ena was over.

March 3, 1936 - Tuesday - Soft and foggy today.  Read some and knit.  Getting lazier every day.

March 4, 1936 - Wednesday.  A sleet over everything this forenoon.  Alfred cutting wood.

March 5, 1936 - Thursday - Warm.  Thawed a lot today.  Lelia and baby here today.

March 6, 1936 - Friday - rained this morning.  Colder in afternoon.  I was down and helped Alfred cut a tree down.

March 7, 1936 - Fine.  Done the cleaning and some cooking.  Pie Social at Springside this evening.

March 8, 1936 - Sunday - fine.  David went back to the woods in afternoon.  Homer is going to work through the woods in the morning.

March 9, 1936 - Monday - Cold morning.  15 below zero, but soon got warmer.  Washed and clothes dried fine.

March 10, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Alfred has some cold.  Rained and Homer did not go to the woods.  He drove the mail.

March 11, 1936 - Fine and warm.  Ester, Priscilla and I down to Lower Burnside.  At Bible Class in evening.

March 12, 1936 - Thursday - Fine and warm.  Ester and Priscilla came home.  The sleighing is done.  The boys are all out of the woods.

March 13, 1936 - Friday - Rained all the forenoon.  The men cut some wood in afternoon.

March 14, 1936 - Saturday - Fine and warm.  Homer and Gordon out to the lake today.  Brought home four trout.   Alfred at D.F. Creelman's.  Eggs are 22 cents a dozen.

March 15, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.  No church - so many people have German  Measles.  Over to Geordie's brow for a walk in afternoon.

March 16, 1936 - Monday - dark and warm.  Snow going fast.  Homer to the village for flour and feed.  Roads bad.  Gordon driving.

March 17, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Very warm for time of year.  Homer, David and Gordon up the brook rolling in logs.

March 18, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine and warm.  The boys driving on the Off Brook.  Sewing at my dress.

March 19, 1936 - Thursday - warm.  Rained in evening.  Alfred with the mail.  The roads are bad.  Finished my dress.  Opened the Driving Camp today.

March 20, 1936 - Friday - Warm.  Alfred on the brook today.  Down to the bridge a while watching the logs going down. Cy here tonight.  Walter's dam blowed this morning.

March 21, 1936 - Saturday - Warm.  Rained in the afternoon.  Baked bread and cleaned up the house. Rolling in Mart's logs today.

March 22, 1936 - Sunday - Warm.  Some showers.  Down to Mart's all day.  Doctor Buntain up to see Christy.  She has an attack of asthma.  Gordon heard frogs tonight.

March 23, 1936 - Monday - Dark and cloudy.  Down at Mart's today.  Christy better.  Driving on both brooks today.  Charlie Graham here tonight.

March 24, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  The wind cold this morning.  Finished rolling in Mart's logs.  Ester down at Mart's helping  Lelia.  Saw a lot of robins this morning.

March 25, 1936 - Wednesday - Cold and windy.  Boys driving on Off Brook.  Finished rolling in Geordie's logs.  Alfred cutting posts and rails.

March 26, 1936 - Thursday - Gordon and Elmer out to the Meadow Dam.  Sewed in a mat this p.m.

March 27, 1936 - Friday - Fine.  Alfred took Charlie home today.  Gordon not on the brook - not very well.

March 28, 1936 - Saturday - rainy day and windy.  Donald and Olin picked may-flowers.  Priscilla got two pansies.  The Drive is down to Bill's.

March 29, 1936 - Sunday - Windy and cold.  Down to church today.  Had the car.  The text was Col. 1: 19-20.  Subject - The Cross.  Two calves born this morning.

March 30, 1936 - Monday - a lovely fine day.  Very warm for the time of year.  Washed,  and baked brown bread.  Gordon out to the dam in the a.m.

March 31, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine but windy.  A thunder shower in the evening.  Ester and Priscilla down to Mart's in afternoon.

April 1, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine. Lelia went home today. Murray was up a few minutes.  Norman MacKay here all night.

April 2, 1936 - Thursday - Fine.  Hooking at the mat.  The Rawleigh man here today.

April 3, 1936 - Friday - Homer not on the Drive today.  Not feeling well.  They cut a few sticks of wood.  Sent 9 dozen eggs to the camp.

April 4, 1936 - Saturday - Fine, but cold in the evening.

April 5, 1936 - Sunday - Cold.  A high wind.  Was at church.  The subject today - "The conquest of the Cross". Nellie here to supper.

April 6, 1936 - Monday - Cold and windy.  Washed.  Edward MacKenzie and Charlie Graham here today.  Boys are driving.

April 7, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine and warm.  Baked bread, cake and cookies.  Took the mat out.  Rained last night - better driving water.

April 8, 1936 - Wednesday - snowing.  Ground white with snow.  Put off the Aid [meeting] till tomorrow.

April 9, 1936 - Thursday - Cold morning but nice and fine.  Aid here today - not many here.

April 10, 1936 - Friday - Fine.  Went for a drive in the afternoon.  Called at Willie's and Nelsie's.

April 11, 1936 - Saturday - Fine but windy.  Ester and Priscilla drove the mail.  Alfred finished hauling wood.   Got 2 pigs tonight.

April 12, 1936 - Sunday - Dirty day.  Spitting snow.  To Springside to church.  Easter Sunday.  The subject of the sermon was :The Cross Triumphant".

April 13, 1936 - Monday - squally.  Did not do much.  Was sick in the night - vomitting.  Feeling better.  Three men buried in the mine at Moose River last night.

April 14, 1936 - Tuesday - snowy, nasty day.  Homer came home in forenoon.  The Drive went into the river today.

April 15, 1936 - Wendesday - still snowy.  Washed. Put the clothes out after supper.  Homer, Ester and Priscilla  went down to the village.

April 16, 1936 - Thursday - Went to the village with the mail.  The wood-saw here this afternoon.  Olin stayed all night.

April 17, 1936 - Friday - Windy.  Sawing wood.  Finished by dinner time.

April 18, 1936 - Saturday - Done the cleaning and some baking.  Ester and Priscilla came home today.

April 19, 1936 - Sunday - fine.  Was to church.  The text was "Give us this day our daily bread".  Min and Grant here to dinner.

April 20, 1936 - Monday - Not very fine.  Washed in forenoon.  Sold two calves to Isnor and Clyde Reynolds.  Bought our fertilizer.  Over to Lew Fulton's for supper and Elwood's all night.

April 21, 1936 - Tuesday - fine morning.  Colder in p.m.  At Bev's for dinner.  Out to Tom's and at Den's all night.  Rained in evening.

April 22, 1936 - Wednesday - Windy and cold.  Homer took Grant,  Elwood,  and James Dunbar to Pictou.  We came home in forenoon.

April 23, 1936 - Thursday - fine.  Sawing wood at  George MacKay's.  The three men entombed at Moose River, rescued at 1a.m.   Two living and well.

April 24, 1936 - Friday - squally and dirty.  The men finished splitting the wood.  Went to the village in the afternoon.  Took Min and Alice.

April 25, 1936 - Saturday - the  ground white with snow.  Gordon came up today.  Mrs Jeff Cox died today in Springfield , Mass.

April 26, 1936 - Sunday - cold and windy.  Rained towards night.  Went out MacKenzie's road and got some may-flowers.  Homer and Gordon went to the village.

April 27, 1936 - Monday - Cold morning but fine.  Washed today.  Cy here to dinner.  Ena over in the afternoon.  Set a hen tonight.

April 28, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Ester and Alice out to the Doctor.  I was out to Lloyd's with telephone money.  Post Office Inspector around today.

April 29, 1936 - Wednesday - not very fine. Ester making a jacket for Marie.  The men hewing some sticks for sills.

April 30, 1936 - Thursday - squally.  Went to the village.  Looked at the Sale at Mrs Fulton's.   Marie here to dinner - also John G. Crockett.

May 1, 1936 - Friday - warm day.  Was working at the old house,  putting in a sill.  Cleaned house in the afternoon.  Cooked some rhubarb.

May 2, 1936 - Saturday - very warm.  Washed some bed clothes this morning.  Men working at the old house.  Got the sill placed.

May 3, 1936 - Sunday - fine.  Rally Day in Sunday School.  Went to Springside in evening to Lantern Slides on China.

May 4, 1936 - Monday - wet day.  Started for Eastville in the morning.  Spring broke in the car.  At Father's to dinner.  Went to Andrew's in p.m.

May 5, 1936 - Tuesday - wet in morning.  Cleared in afternoon - but cold.  Alfred's birthday.  Mart and Christy here to supper.

May 6, 1936 - Wednesday - cold and windy.  Washed a big washing , and cleaned the boy's room.  Down to practice in evening. 

May 7, 1936 - Thursday - Fine.  The men picking stones.  Finished cleaning upstairs and the hall.

May 8, 1936 - Friday - Fine.  Amanda and Alec here to dinner.  Went to a Pie Social in evening.  Made $49.50.  Got along good.

May 9, 1936 - Saturday - raining.   Went to the village.   Ester and Priscilla staying down for the week-end.  Alfred and I to Mart's for supper - his birthday.

May 10, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.  Went to Sunday School.   This is Mother's Day.  Had a nice card from Byron.

May 11, 1936 - Monday.  Washed.  The boys were hauling manure.  Down to John Deyarmond's to see Jeff Cox a few minutes in evening.

May 12, 1936 - Tuesday - rained.  Ester and Priscilla came back today.   Alfred was down to see about the Church Insurance.

May 13, 1936 - Wednesday - Cleaned house today.  Finished the pantry and did the old house.  Went to the play  "The Eyes Of Love"  at Springside.

May 14, 1936 - Wet day.  Aid at Mrs Murray Graham's.  Quite a lot there,.

May 15, 1936 - Friday - Fine.  Went to Truro.  Paid C.F.Cox's bill,  also the Doctors.  Went to the show  "Captain January".  Got home about 7:30.

May 16, 1936 - Saturday - Dirty day.  Done some cooking.  Alfred and Homer and Ester to the village in evening.

May 17, 1936 - Cold.  The ground white with snow this morning.  To church and Sunday School.   Boys went to C.E. [Christian Endeavour] at Springside this evening.

May 18, 1936 - Monday - Nice and warm.    Washed and worked out of doors some.   Made a rock garden and got  the chicken fence put up.

May 19, 1936 - Tuesday - Down to the village and got a setting of eggs.

May 20, 1936 - Wednesday.  Whitened the ceiling and painted the woodwork in the bedroom.  Homer working at the car. 

May 21, 1936 - Thursday - Fine but cold.  Papered the bedroom today.  Homer took a party to Milford to a meeting in the evening.

May 22, 1936 - Friday - A cold windy day.  Down to the schoolhouse to an Empire Day entertainment.  Cleaned the room today.

May 23, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  An awful hard frost - 8 degrees of frost.  Alfred at schoolhouse to a Trustees meeting.  Ester and Priscilla down to Mart's

May 24, 1936 - Sunday - fine.  Was at Sunday School.  Not many there.

May 25, 1936 - Monday - fine.  Washed and done some gardening.  Sowed oats today and got in part of the mangles.  David at Mart's.

May 26, 1936 - Fine.  Did some odd jobs.  Finishing house-cleaning.  Had a letter from Julia today.

May 28, 1936 - Thursday - rained today.  Ester and Priscilla went down to Murray's in the mail.  David came home from Mart's.

May 29, 1936 - Friday - done some mending.

May 30, 1936 - Saturday - Cleaned up the house.  Ester and Priscilla came home in the mail.  Went to the village in evening.

May 31, 1936 - Sunday - To church and Sunday School.  Mr Raynor's text was......

June 1, 1936 - Washed and got beds fixed up for the boys.  Planted some potatoes in afternoon.  Killed a veal for our own use. 

June 2, 1936 - Tuesday - fine.  Byron and family arrived at Mrs Kennedy's about 11 o'clock.  We went down and Byron and Roy came up in the evening.

June 3, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Planted the turnips.  Byron and Roy here.  Arnold came up and Byron went to Mr and Mrs Alex Brenton's golden wedding anniversary.

June 4, 1936 - Thursday - fine.   Homer went down to get Byron and Ina.  They went to a dance at Middle Stewiacke.  Father and Mrs G.  here to supper.

June 5, 1936 - Friday - a dark day.  A little rain.  Called at Elwood's, Lew's,  and  Hallie Brown's.  At Andrew's to supper.  Aunt Jessie is failing.

June 6, 1936 - Saturday - warm.  Planted the corn.   Byron and Ina down to see Min.  They went to the village in the evening.

June 7, 1936 - Sunday - very warm.  To church and Sunday School.  Byron and Ina had Roy and Arnold baptized today.  Mr and Mrs Kennedy here to supper.

June 8, 1936 - Monday.  Washed and cleaned the house up.  Sowed the buckwheat.

June 9, 1936 - Tuesday - fine.  Byron and Ina and Roy came up with the mail.  The men were cutting some logs.  Byron and Alfred fishing tonight.

June 10, 1936 - Wednesday - fine.  Byron and Ina here today.  We all did some sleeping.  Down to a concert at Springside.

June 11, 1936 - Thursday - Byron went down to Father's.  Ina, Ester and Priscilla down to the village.  Had ice-cream at W.D. Kennedy's.

June 12, 1936 - Friday - shingling the old house - got it finished.  Byron at Mart's for dinner.  Took him to the village in the evening.

June 13, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Pretty hot.  Ester and Priscilla went to the village.  Byron left for USA about 8 a.m.  Roy came home with us.

June 14, 1936 - Sunday - hot day.  Was to Sunday School.   Geordie's car got burnt last night.

June 15, 1936 - Monday - Washed and got some clothes ironed.  Working at the old barn.  David took a load of logs to Crocker's.

June 16, 1936 - Tuesday - raining.  Fine growing weather.  Homer and David went down and got some jacks to fix the barn.

June 17, 1936 - Wednesday - wet and cold this morning.  Aid at Mart's this afternoon.  Allen went home tonight.

June 18, 1936 - Thursday - down to the village.  Ester and Priscilla came home.  Roy stayed down at W.D. Kennedy's.

June 19, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Ester made a dress for Priscilla.  Went to the reception for Viola and Fred Fisher.  A nice time.

June 20, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Was down to the village and over to see the farm Gordon has bought.  Had our supper at the house.

June 21, 1936 - Sunday - Some rain.  To church and Sunday School.  Mr Raynor's text was  "I come not to bring peace, but a sword".

June 22, 1936 - Monday - washed.  Set out cabbage plants.

June 23, 1936 - Tuesday.  Baked bread,  and got the ironing done.   The men are hoeing at the turnips.

June 24, 1936 - Wednesday.  Collecting telephone bills.  At Mrs Tom Graham's birthday party in afternoon.  Sowed the wet piece on the interval.

June 25, 1936 - Thursday - Wet.  Ester and Homer down to the village with the mail.

June 26, 1936 - Friday.  Wet.  Down to the Aid at Springside.   Ina and Arnold came up today.  Alfred and Father called on Robert Rutherford.

June 27, 1936 - Saturday - cool day.  Ester, Ina and Priscilla picking wild strawberries.

June 28, 1936 - Sunday - cool and dark.  Went to Sunday School in afternoon.  Had fruit salad for supper.

June 29, 1936 - Washed this forenoon.   Ina,  Ester,  Roy,and Priscilla down to Mart's in afternoon.  Showers in afternoon.

June 30, 1936 - Tuesday - cool these days.  The men are hoeing.  Not getting many strawberries.  Walter Mosher here in afternoon.

Ju;y 1, 1936 - Wednesday - Went over to Musquodoboit in afternoon.  Was at Allister's to supper.  Ina called to see Mr. Sid Hamilton.

July 2, 1936 - Thursday - fine.  Ina and Homer went to the village with the mail.  The boys have some colds.

July 3, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Warmer today.   Homer took Walter and Lyman in to Truro today.  Ina, Roy and I over to Willie's in evening.

July 4, 1936 - Saturday - Fine.  Thunder storm in evening.  Min here in afternoon.  Went to see Aunt Jessie a few minutes.   Ina and children went to the village.

July 5, 1936 - Sunday - Damp day.  To Sunday School and church.  Mr Raynor's text was  "Take my yoke upon you".

July 6, 1936 - Monday - Washed and got some of the clothes ironed.   Ester and Priscilla went to Harry Johnson's in evening.    We took them out.

July 7, 1936 - Tuesday - Shower in afternoon.  Donald  Graham,  Paul and Marguerite Johnson here to supper.  We took them down.

July 8, 1936 - Wednesday - A thunder storm today.  Alfred has a sore hip.  Homer tinkering at the car.  David went to Edmund Miller's.

July 9, 1936 - Fine.  Cut a piece of hay that had weed in it.   Over to Geordie's to supper.   Had a feed of strawberries.

July 10, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Down to Mart's in morning.    Fixed some flowers for Mrs C. McMullin's funeral today.

July 11, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  The men hauled up some wood.

July 12, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.   Down to Springside to Communion.   The text was "This do in remembrance of me".

July 13, 1936 - Monday - fine.  Cut some hay and got it raked up.  Washed,   and picked some gooseberries.

July 14, 1936 - Tuesday - Dark and cloudy.  Ironed,  and finished picking the gooseberries.

July 15, 1936 - Wednesday - Dark day.  Mrs. J. Crockett, Eastville, buried this forenoon.  She was 88 years old.  Preserved the gooseberries.

July 16, 1936 - Thursday - fine.  Down to the village with mail.  Brought Roy up.   Picked some red currants in afternoon.

July 17, 1936 - Friday - fine.   Put in three load of hay.  Homer to a damce at Grant Cox's.  Julia called from Truro about 9 p.m.

July 18, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Cleaned up the house.  Down to the village and to Eastville in the evening.  Julia got home.  Aunt Jessie very weak. 

July 19, 1936 - Sunday.  Wet day.  No church or Sunday School.  Homer and Ina to Eastville in evening.  Father and Mrs G. came home with them.

July 20, 1936 - Monday.  Not a very good hay day.   Washed this morning.

July 21, 1936 - Tuesday.  Making hay.  Put in 4 loads.  Went to the village in evening to the Scottish Concert.  Roy and Ina stayed down.

July 22, 1936 - Wednesday.  Fine hay day.  Aunt Jessie very low today.  Alfred and I went up in the evening.

July 23, 1936 - Thursday - fine.   Aunt jessie passed away at 3:30 a.m.  She went very easy.  We came home in the early morning.

July 24, 1936 - Friday - Dark and cloudy.  Made a wreath of pansies.  Was to the funeral in the afternoon.  Homer one of the pall bearers.

July 25, 1936 - Saturday - Some heavy rain today.  Alfred went to Riversdale for an Eaton's parcel.  The gang all home tonight.

July 26, 1936 - Sunday - Wet in the morning.  Clear in the afternoon. To church and Sunday School.  The sermon was on "Overcoming our handicaps".

July 27, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Washed.  Picked peas for supper tomorrow.  Picked some currants.

July 28, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Julia and Rhoda came up with the mail.  Mrs Hamilton and Stella here for supper.  Willie and Emma over.

July 29, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Finished haying.  Went fishing in the forenoon.  Called to see Eva.  Julia and Rhoda down to Mart's in the p.m.

July 30, 1936 - Thursday.  Dark day.   Went to the village at mail time.  At Father's for supper.   Called at E.B. Deyarmond's.

July 31, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Alfred went to Truro to uncle Robert MacKay's funeral.  Mr and Mrs Raynor called.

August 1, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Alfred worked in the garden , and I done some cooking and cleaning.  All the family home tonight.

August 2, 1936 - Sunday - A thunder storm towards night.  To church and Sunday School.  Min here to supper.  Priscilla did not go back.

August 3, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Washed and  ironed.  Also churned.  Pretty hot day.

August 4, 1936 - Tuesday - A thunder shower in afternoon.   Quilted the Aid quilt in the schoolhouse this afternoon.

August 5, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine day.  Homer went down to Den's and got a load of hay.  Killed 14 chickens and 5 fowl.  Mr Sid Hamilton's funeral [today].

August 6, 1936 - Thursday.  Went to the village with chickens.   They brought $12.50.

August 7, 1936 - Friday.  Wet this morning.  We went to Musquodoboit.  Ester, Ina, Roy and Julia went with us. We were to Middle Musquodoboit in the afternoon.

August 8, 1936 - Saturday.  Lots of cleaning and cooking to do today.  Ester, Gordon and Ina here for the week-end.

August 9, 1936 - Sunday.  Fine.  Was to church and Sunday School today.  Rev. William Bayers spoke today.  The folks went back tonight.

August 10, 1936 - Monday.  Homer went up to work on the Landsdown road.  Washed.  We went to Eastville in the afternoon.

August 11, 1936 - Tuesday.  Fine.  Mr and mrs W.D.Kennedy,  Ina,  Roy,  Arnold,  Mrs Lew Brenton,  Donald,  Mr and Mrs Ingham,  Mrs Kent,  Douglas and Rita here today.

August 12, 1936 - Wednesday.  Fine.  Baked bread and done the ironing.  Julia leaves for the west this morning.

August 13, 1936 - Thursday - fine.  Went to the village.  Got a bag of sugar,  oats,  and middlings.  Was up to see Nellie.  She is going to the USA tomorrow.

August 14, 1936 - Friday.  Baked a cake.  Homer came home for supper and went to a dance.

August 15, 1936 - Saturday.  Fine.  A cattle show at Cross Roads.  David went.  Rained towards night.  Had a card form Julia from Montreal.

August 16, 1936 - Sunday.  Dark and muggy.  A big rain in the night.   The oats are down bad.  Was to L.W. Hamilton's funeral in the P.M.

August 17, 1936 - Monday.  A thunder storm in the morning. Homer went on the roads.   Washed and churned, and baked some cookies.

August 18, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Cleaned up the house.  Jack, Mary, Ina and the boys came up in the afternoon.

August 19, 1936 - Wednesday.  Fine and cool.  Killed 14 chickens today. Mary, Jack, Ina and the boys visiting at Mart's.

August 20, 1936 - Thursday.  Showers in the a.m.  Jack, Mary, Ina and David fishing.  Caught 72 trout.  Father and Mrs G. here to supper.

August 21, 1936 - Friday.  Fine.  Jack and Mary went fishing this a.m.   Went home in afternoon.  Canning peas today.

August 22, 1936 - Saturday - done the cleaning and some cooking.  Went down to Grant's in afternoon.

August 23, 1936 - Sunday.  Rained in the afternoon.  No Sunday School.  Arnold coughing - has the Whooping Cough, I guess.

August 24, 1936 - Monday.  Rained most all day.  We washed in forenoon and put the clothes on the grass.  Alfred and Ina went to Bev's.

August 25, 1936 - Tuesday.  Showery.  Over to Green Hill and Pictou.  Came back by Truro.  Had a nice time.

August 26, 1936 - Wednesday.  Fine.  Alfred went to Stewiacke - took Den.  Went to Mr Arthur Johnson's funeral in afternoon.  Washed and ironed.

August 27, 1936 - Thursday - fine.  The men were mowing oars on the interval by hand.  Canning beans and done some ironing.

August 28, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Baked cookies and bread in the morning.  Down to Pembrook collecting Telephone Bills.  At Melvin's for supper.

August 29, 1936 - Saturday - fine.   Mowing around the oats,  and some laid-down places. To the village and to Lloyd Johnson.s.  Threshing at Lloyd's.

August 30, 1936 - Sunday - raining.   Did not have Sunday School today.

August 31, 1936 - Monday.  Not very fine.  Went down to the village in the Cream Truck.  Arnold is coughing pretty bad.

September 1, 1936 - Finer.  Washed and ironed.  Homer over to Springside helping to shingle the barn at the manse..

September 2, 1936 - Wednesday - fine.  Elmer up and cut the oats.   David helping Mart turn oats.  Homer over to Musquodoboit in afternoon.

September 3, 1936 - Thursday - fine in forenoon.  Put in a load of oats.   Rained later.  Ina, the boys, Jack and Mary left for USA this a.m.  Ester home.

September 4, 1936 - Friday - Cloudy.  Alfred, Homer and David over to Lew Fulton's cutting oats.   Done some preserving and made pickles.

September 5, 1936 - Saturday.  Fine.  Mart carted oats in the afternoon.  Ester and Priscilla went to the village.  Grant lost a cow today.

September 7, 1936 - Monday.  Squally and wet.  Mart's folks went to Green Hill.  Washed and put the clothes on the grass.

September 8, 1936 - Tuesday.  Wet.  Ester and Priscilla came home.  Making pickles and chow.

September 9, 1936 - Wednesday - rainy and wet.  Killed chickens today and made choke-cherry jelly.

September 10, 1936 - Thursday - wet.   Down to the village.  The chickens weighed 5 pounds each.  Down to Grant's in evening.

September 11, 1936 - Friday - fine.   Turned the oats.  Mart put in three load.  School Fair in Upper Stewiacke today. 

September 12, 1936 - Saturday - Rainy and dark.  Murray,Lelia and Lorne here to supper. Down to the village in the evening. 

September 13, 1936 - Sunday - fine.  Was to Sunday School in afternoon.  Took Gordon down to Cross Roads in evening.

September 14, 1936 - Monday - Fine but cold.  Put in some of the oats.  Washed and made some mince meat.

September 15, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Finished putting in oats.  Hard frost this morning.   Made chow today.

September 16, 1936 - Wednesday - Dark and cloudy.  Alfred raked the rakings up,  and mowed the barley.  David went to Eastville this morning.

September 17, 1936 - Thursday - Showers.  Ester and Priscilla went up to Eastville today.

September 19, 1936 - Saturday.  A big rain storm and quite a high wind in the night. Ester, Priscilla, Gordon and David came home tonight.

Serptember 20, 1936 - Sunday - Fine.  Church in the forenoon in Burnside.   I have a bad cough so did not go.   The Hutchinson's over in afternoon.

September 21, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Washed and ironed.  Put in the buckwheat..  Had two loads.  Put them on the scaflod over the barn floor.

September 22, 1936 - Tuesday - digging potatoes.

September 23, 1936 - Wednesday - lovely fine day.  Put in the barley.  Dug some potatoes and picked apples.  Down to J.W. Deyarmond's  50th Anniversary.

September 24, 1936 - Thursday - Not so fine.  digging potatoes.  It rained about three o'clock. Down to the village with the mail.

September 25, 1936 - Friday.  Wet day.  Went to Truro.  Alfred and Ester got their glasses changed.  Charlie Blaikie had an operation this morning.

September 26, 1936 - Saturday - Fine.  Down tothe village.  Got a barrell of apples from Clyde.  Paid $3.00 for them.  David and Gordon home tonight.

September 27, 1936 - Sunday - not very fine.  Quite cool.  Down to Sunday School.  Homer and Gordon went away after supper.

September 28, 1936 - Monday.  Rained hard in forenoon.  Alfred, Homer and I went to the village and up to Andrew's in afternoon.

September 29, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Washed in forenoon.  Ester and Priscilla went down to Grant's with mail.  Homer and David went to work at the dam.

September 30, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Got some of the beans in.  Digging potatoes.

October 1, 1936 - Thursday - Some rain.  Got the potatoes wet.  Went with mail.  Ester and Priscilla came home today.

October 2, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Alfred finished digging potatoes.  Have a fine crop.  Ester went down to Lloyd Johnson's for a few days.

October 3, 1936 - Saturday - fine.  Went to the village and did some shopping.  Baked bread and rolls.  Boys came home from the dam.

October 4, 1936 - Sunday - fine.  Went to church and Sunday School.  Quite a turn-out of people.

October 5, 1936 - monday - not very fine.  Homer went down to work with the thresher at Allen's.   Alfred , Hazel and Betty Lee [Graham] arrived.

October 6, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  Men finished pulling mangles.  Picked the apples.  Went with Alfred with the mail.

October 7, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Thresher at George MacKay's today.

October 8, 1936 - Thursday - Wet morning.  I went down and helped Christy a while at dinner time.

October 9, 1936 - Friday - fine.  Thresher moved up after dinner.  Ester down and helped Christy a while.  Olin Brown here tonight.

October 10, 1936 - Saturday - Rained hard in evening.  Finished threshing about 2:30 p.m.  Had a fine lot of oats,  buckwherat,  and barley.

October 11, 1936 - Sunday - Cleared off pretty good.  Alfred, Hazel, Betty Lee, and Min here to dinner.

October 12, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Awfully windy.  Down to see the bear they got at David's this morning.  A big fellow.  Washed and ironed.

October 13, 1936 - Tuesday - Dug the non-rot potatoes.  Had 30 pounds.  Cold and windy day.

October 14, 1936 - Wednesday - Cold and windy.  Down to Grant's to dinner to see Alfred and Hazel.  Pulled the carrots when we came home.

October 15, 1936 - Thursday - Cold.  Down to the village with mail.  Alfred fixed up the buckwheat straw.  Willie got a load. 

October 16, 1936 - Friday - Warm and cloudy.  Two fellows here to dinner - Agents for Halifax Star.  Alfred burning at the brush.

October 17, 1936 - Saturday - warm.  A high wind in afternoon.  Ester and Priscilla down tothe village.   Alfred clearing up and burning brush.

October 18, 1936 - Sunday - A terrible wind and rain storm in the night.   Took Mary to hospital in the night.  Homer and I went down. 

October 19, 1936 - Monday - Fine.  Alvin Deyarmond cut his foot bad.  Took him to the hospital.  He lost his big toe and the ball of his foot.

October 20, 1936 - Tuesday - Fine.  The Rawleigh man here all night last night.   Homer and David in too.  Ester  and Priscilla came home today.

October 21, 1936 - Wednesday - Fine.  Cleaned some house.  The flies are bad.  Mary is improving.  Grant came home today.

October 26, 1936 - Monday - not very fine.  We washed and put a quilt in.  Jack Crockett here to dinner.  Took feather beds in to Truro.

October 27, 1936 - Tuesday - finer.  Quilted all day.  Baked bread and churned.  The wind is blowing hard and cold. 

October 28, 1936 - Wednesday - Cold wind.  Not so high.  Alfred, Homer and Bev went to Truro.  Min helped finish Hazel's quilt.

October 29, 1936 - Thursday - Not so cold.  Father and Mrs James came up with the mail.  Down to Mart's in evening.

October 30, 1936 - Friday - Fine.  Seymour and Mildred left for home this morning.  Mr and Mrs James A. Graham down to Mart's in afternoon.

October 31, 1936 - Saturday - down to the village with mail.   Jack took the boys to Truro tonight.   The folks went home today.
